To start, my name is Kadyn, and I’m 14. I have been home-schooled for three years and can tell you a lot about it from experience. There are lessons that you can learn at home that you can’t learn in a classroom.
To begin with, in person learning is very time consuming and takes up around eight hours a day. Whereas, if you’re home-schooled, your school work only takes up three hours in your day. In addition, you’ll have time for extracurricular activities, and even a job. My job today is teaching golf to children. Before that, I was always trying to come up with new small business ideas. One being a club cleaning business, which was very well known at our golf course; I got a lot of customers. This is one of the many things you can learn as a home-schooler.
Next, home-school is easy to take on a trip. I could fly to Paris for a month if I wanted to and my school work would be right there with me. I happen to do this often. Normally, I take a trip to Florida to see my grandma and grandpa every few months. Best of all, home-schoolers can make up their own schedule. When they want to start and when they want to end the school day. This can teach them how to prioritize their day, and to experience new places.
Third of all, being home-schooled has helped me have the motivation to try new and exciting things. For example, I went on a plane by myself, for the very first time, at age 12. Also, I went on a cruise with my mom and grandmother, on a girls trip to the Bahamas. Not only that but I’ve made so many great friends, some maybe even life long. My experience as a home-schooler has pushed me to be brave, do new things, and meet new people.
All and all, I enjoy home-school, and I think it has made me a better person. There are things that I have learned on my own, without a teacher, classroom, or school. These are moral lessons that I carry with me every day, and always will.
